Malaysian Studies

I bought two books recently. These are worth to read to catch up on some Malaysian studies.
1
This book - a compilation of articles from several high-profile contributors and as well as collection of letters from the rakyat sent to Malaysiakini was a good read indeed - provides (some) understanding somewhat hidden from the public of the conflict between our ex- and present prime ministers. It could be a little outdated but worth the read.
2
Based on newly declassified documents at the Public Records Office in London, the book alleged that contrary to the official account which had blamed the violence on opposition parties, the May 13, 1969 Sino-Malay Race Riot had been intentionally started by the "ascendent state capitalist class" in UMNO as a coup d'etat to topple the Tunku from power and put Tun Abdul Razak in his place. This, at least, indicates that race and religion was really not quite an issue in the past. Nevertheless, let's work toward and keep improving our race relations.

You can't shake hands with a clenched fist. Indira Gandhi.
