Chamonix is a popular winter sports resort with one of the best skiing runs in the world. The 1924 Winter Olympics were held here.
Juliette took a short nap to save up enough energy for the day.
Chamonix was about one and half hour drive from Geneva. On the way, we could enjoy mountain sceneries.
The Chamonix Valley is approximately 20 kilometers and nestled between the towering Mont Blanc range to the south and the Aiguilles Rouges mountains to the north. This spectacular route can be skied or snowboarded, although it would be insane to do it without a guide due to all the crevasses.
Upon arriving at Chamonix, Juliette was so excited that she forgot to put on her jacket. Bad daddy !
Jacques continued to stare blankly and then noticed that his sister has the coolest sunglasses.
As the highest European mountain west of Russia, Mont Blanc or Monte Bianco, holds a special allure for mountain climbers. Its height is about 4,810 metres.
Mont Blanc was first climbed in 1786 by two French mountaineers, Jacques Balmat and Michel-Gabriel Paccard.
Juliette was restless and was eyeing at the Montenvers rack-rail trains.
Jacques couldn't be bothered with us anymore. It was afternoon nap time.
Setting off from Chamonix, the famous rack-rail train (in operation since 1908) brings you to the Montenvers site (1913 metres). An imposing panorama of Mer de Glace, Europe's largest living glacier and surrounded by prestigious summits, les Drus (3754 m), les Grandes Jorasses (4205 m) and les Grands Charmoz (3842 m).
The Mont Blanc Tunnel is a road tunnel in the Alps between France and Italy, near the Mont Blanc mountain. The tunnel runs beneath the mountain between Chamonix and Courmayeur, Italy. On March 24th, 1999, 39 people died when a Belgian transport truck carrying flour and margarine caught fire in the 8.6 meter wide tunnel. The fire, reaching temperatures of 1,000° Celsius, trapped around 40 vehicles in dense and poisonous smoke.
